I left Hong Kong for the U.S. in 1961, served in the US Army, and got out after a tour of duty in Vietnam. After that I worked for the U.S. Department of Defense until I retired from it in 1988.
I went back to Hong Kong in early 1972, met and married my wife Fanny and we returned to the U.S. and settled in San Leandro, California, which is near San Francisco. I started my koi hobby in 1972 shortly after Fanny and I moved to our new house. I became quite knowledgeable in the raising and care of golden koi. In 1995, I was invited to join the koi judging program by the Koi Club of America and was fully certified as a golden koi judge in 1999.
I have a second hobby raising Bonsai trees. Below is a picture of my koi pond in which I raise my prize golden koi and also some of my bonsai trees.
After leaving the Department of Defense, I started a carpet cleaning business in 1989 and ran it until I retired in 2003.
Fanny and I have two grown children.
